This small word of great significance … if you should care to look …
Usually expressing wishes … the word is used in many “functions” …
I’ve heard if used in many ways … mostly at one of life’s junctions

The “IFS” will run the gamut … from youthful age to old …
This word is used more often …as we see our life unfold …
“IF” I went to school and finished … I’d have a great career …
I wouldn’t have to work two jobs… and still be in the rear …

“IF” I had a better voice … I’d sing upon the stage…
My CD’s would sell like mad… I’d be the latest rage…
“IF” I had a classy car … all the girls would make a fuss…
Instead I have to be content … to travel there by bus…

“IF” I hit the Lotto … and became a millionaire …
I’d buy all the things I wanted … and I wouldn’t have a care…
The statements that you’ve read so far …denote some common themes…
They echo disappointments … of not fulfilling our own dreams…

It’s easy to insert this word … citing reasons for our loss …
“IF” a word could make you sad … its one I sure would “toss” …
Life is what you make of it … don’t waste time in looking back…
