Doughnut Make Sense?

Doughnut Make Sense?

This poem’s about the Doughnut… a subject we all know.
It has to do with appetites… for sweet things made of dough.
We’ve seen them lined up neatly… in the trays stacked up ten high.
You got to get there early… if your favorite you would buy.

They’re purchased by the dozens… with coffee freshly ground.
You stand in line… and wait your turn… until it comes around.
The aggravation starts to grow… when you’re soon to order too…
The person that’s in front of you… Just doesn’t have a clue.

I think I’ll have a custard filled… and oh yes… one of those…
Two maple… one cranberry… as he drones on, your temper grows.
You only have a couple minutes… it’s all that you could find.
But now you’re stuck behind this guy… that can’t make up his mind.

You feel like screaming, “PICK ONE!!! For crying out loud…
Take a look behind you man… Can’t you see this crowd??”
Blood pressure starts to climb… and your face is turning red.
You feel like helping him to choose… but you just smile instead.

You try to mind your manners.. and say nothing to be rude…
But the indecision of this dude… has really… got you stewed.
You feel that he could profit… by the choice “you’d” make for him.
But if he did… what you were thinking… his breakfast would be grim.

Finally it is your turn… the girl stands staring… box open and held steady.
She asks for “your” selection… you falter… thinking, gosh… I’am not quite ready.
You glance back over your shoulder… to a guy behind… that’s much like you.
He’s also hoping… that you’ll hurry… so he could get some doughnuts too.

We’re sometimes quick to judge the guy… our feelings grow intense.
But really folks…we’re much the same… sometimes lacking common sense.
As we ramble on through life my friends… whatever be your goal…
Keep your eyes upon the “Doughnut”….
and not upon the hole.
