Playing In The Snow

Warmly dressed with boots and gloves, and sweater nice and thick;
I heard the front door softly close behind me with a click.
Stay in the yard and don't go far, cause lunch is almost ready...
I heard Moms voice advising me, while trying to stand steady.

I walked a long way from the house, then for awhile just standing.
I viewed the whiteness of the snow, the giant slowflakes landing.
I felt them fall upon my lashes, and melting on my face.
I quickly blinked, then they were gone, while others took their place.

This pristine mat of whiteness, covering fence posts, and tree;
This breathtaking beauty... that HE allowed me to see.
The uncluttered landscape adorned by HIS touch;
Stirred tender sweet feelings, I welcome so much.

Only GOD could orchestrate this marvelous winter scene.
The purest coat of white over fields which once were green.
I stood there in the silence, there was so much here to see...
And felt so very special that HE gave this gift to me.

The silence of the moment, bid me hush... don't move or speak...
Something was occurring... and was about to reach its peak.
The wondrous joyful feeling like I had never known...
Would visit me again much later, after I was fully grown.

How strange I felt, how odd this peace... this sense of my well being.
Yet I could feel this time and place was not at all for skiing.
I had great plans to use this snow, for running all about;
Of sliding here, and jumping there, and letting out a shout.

The beauty of the moment was quickly broken then;
A shout from home... a call for lunch... it's time to come back in.
I slowly ambled towards the house, glancing back over my shoulder...
Trying to see the thing I felt... that I'd feel again... when older.

The peace I felt that day with HIM, when just a lad of ten...
I've felt anew so many times, and look for it again.
The memories I stored from there, are still with me to this day.
That day my Mom let me go out, into the snow to play.

Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed [it] unto them.

For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, [even] his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Romans 1:19-20
